Croatia blasts short-handed Cameroon, 4-0

mario mandzukic croatia world cup  Without star striker Samuel Eto'o, it was already an uphill battle for the Cameroonians. Then Alex Song was given a red card in the first half, forcing them to face a hungry Croatia squad with just 10 men.

And Croatia took full advantage.
It was mostly target practice for the Croats, who seemingly lived in the Cameroon box. Mario Mandzukic was back with a vengeance -- he was forced to sit the first game due to two yellow cards in the qualifiers -- scoring two goals.
Now the real challenge begins for Croatia. A win next week against Mexico, who has not yet been scored upon, will give them a spot in the knockout stage. And, thanks to their four goals today, a tie would get them through in the event Cameroon beats Brazil -- which will probably not happen, but still.
So it's pretty clear-cut for Croatia: Beat Mexico and you're through.
The blow-by-blow of Wednesday's game is below.
************
89' -- It's just not gonna happen. Cameroon with a great chance, but Webo's header rings the post. And Cameroon's players are fighting. Let's just go home.
88' -- Rakitic has a go for Croatia but his chip rolls wide.
85' -- Awwww. Cameroon's best chance of the night, but Moukandjo's shot sails just wide.
83' -- Croatia not letting up, but they've been unable to convert on any of their numerous recent chances. End this thing already.
73' -- Goal, Croatia. Some fancy footwork on the edge sets up a shot, and Mandzukic is there to bang home the rebound. It has gotten ugly

Netherlands beat Australia by 3-2

Rvp_photo_credit-_paul_gilham_medium Netherlands beat Australia by 3-2
Oranje emerge from Socceroos scare with victoryThe Netherlands came from behind against Australia in Porto Alegre to record their second win of the group stages. The Socceroos certainly didn't make life easy for the Dutch, taking the lead through Mile Jedinak after Tim Cahill cancelled out Arjen Robben's opener. However, they largely failed to take their chances against a clinical Oranje, and goals from Robin van Persie and Memphis Depay ensured they were made to pay a heavy price.

Russia vs Korea Republic in Fifa world cup 2014

Five players set to appear in Russia’s World Cup opener with Korea Republic that could soon be heading to the Premier League
Fabio Capello will be out to prove his 2010 disaster with the England national team was merely a blip when Russia face-off against the Korea Republic, but as many as five players taking to the field in Brazil could be dreaming of a move to the Premier League.
Russia will be out to impress ahead of their turn as hosts in 2018 while Korea Republic know that anything other than a win could see them on their way home before the tournament has got going.
For the players, meanwhile, a few star turns could see them heading to the greatest league in the world, with the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea tracking some of the players on show
Korea Republic’s biggest goal threat is something of a mainstay in Germany, having previously spent three years at Hamburg where he managed an impressive 20 goals in 73 games, before moving to Leverkusen.
The good times have continued with Son has managing ten goals in 31 games, though a change of manager, coupled with a tempting post-World Cup offer could see the forward head for pastures new.

Mexico (Possible, 5-3-2): Ochoa; Aguilar, Moreno, Marquez, Rodriguez, Layun; Guardado, Vazquez, Herrera; Dos Santos, Peralta.

Team News
Hulk withdrew early from training with the rest of his team-mates on Sunday morning, two days before the host nation's second World Cup Group A match against Mexico.
The 27-year-old Zenit St Petersburg player immediately left the field after scoring in a training game between the likely starting line-up for the match against Mexico and the substitutes.
Hulk, whose place was taken by Ramires, did not look entirely at ease as he returned to the changing room but it remains to be seen if his early withdrawal could see him miss the upc
Match Notes
The winner of Tuesday's match will be guaranteed a spot in the next round if Cameroon and Croatia draw their match on Wednesday in the jungle city of Manaus.
Having been helped by the referee in the opener against Croatia, Brazil will want to impress on there own.
Whether match-winner Neymar will be more cautious knowing a second booking would rule him out of the third game remains to be seen.
But the Mexicans have won big matches against Brazil before, beating them 4-3 in the final of the Confederations Cup in 1999 and more recently in the Olympic final in London.
Stat of the game: The 38 previous games between these teams have produced 107 goals. Brazil have won 22 and scored 71, with Mexico claiming just six victories but also netting 36 times.
John Ley's prediction: Brazil 2 Mexico 1.
